How I use Gemini.

Long context, the Google stack, and a quick image when I need one.

Where I reach for it first

Big inputs, or anything already sitting in Google's tools. It handles everyday work just as well. The context window is simply its clearest advantage.

Made by Google

None of this is a boundary. Every model here has written code, drafted copy, answered questions and been asked for an image. What follows is where each one has an edge, not what it is allowed to do.

Gemini

Long context, the Google stack, and a quick image when I need one.

Where it has an edge

  • Very long inputs, whole repositories or hour long transcripts
  • Anything already sitting in Docs, Sheets or Drive
  • Fast image generation
  • Cheap bulk passes over a lot of text

How I prompt it

I use the context window properly: drop in the full document or transcript and ask for a specific extraction instead of a summary. Naming the output shape helps, such as a table with three columns, and saying which sections to ignore. For images I describe the scene, the framing and the style in that order, then ask for two or three variations.

Images

Yes. It is quick at clean, simple scenes. Text inside an image is still unreliable, so I keep words out of the picture and add them in the layout.

Where it slips

It sometimes answers from a summary of the document rather than the document itself. Ask it to quote the line it used and the problem usually shows up.

What I use alongside it

Not instead of it. Most projects end up using two or three of these together, because each one covers a different weak spot in the others.

Claude

I lean on it for long documents and code that has to hold together.

How I use it

ChatGPT

The generalist I reach for first, and the easiest one to edit an image with.

How I use it

DeepSeek

Serious reasoning and code for pennies, as long as the data is not sensitive.

How I use it

Grok

The one with live access to what people are saying right now.
