How I use ChatGPT.

The generalist I reach for first, and the easiest one to edit an image with.

Where I reach for it first

A fast first draft, an image to adjust, or output that has to come back in an exact shape. It is the one I open by default.

Made by OpenAI

None of this is a boundary. Every model here has written code, drafted copy, answered questions and been asked for an image. What follows is where each one has an edge, not what it is allowed to do.

ChatGPT

The generalist I reach for first, and the easiest one to edit an image with.

Where it has an edge

  • Everyday drafting, rewriting and explaining
  • Image generation and small changes to an image
  • Structured output that has to match a schema
  • Voice conversations and quick back and forth

How I prompt it

Short prompts work best. I say the role, the task and the format in one or two sentences, then correct in the next message rather than starting again. For anything that feeds a program I give the exact JSON shape and one filled example, because a schema on its own invites creative interpretation.

Images

Yes, and it is the easiest of the four for edits: remove this, change that, keep the rest. Hands, text and fine detail still need a second look.

Where it slips

It agrees too easily. If I state something wrong with confidence, it will often build on it. I ask it to argue the other side when I want a real check.

The rest of the set

What I use alongside it

Not instead of it. Most projects end up using two or three of these together, because each one covers a different weak spot in the others.

Claude

I lean on it for long documents and code that has to hold together.

How I use it

Gemini

Long context, the Google stack, and a quick image when I need one.

How I use it

DeepSeek

Serious reasoning and code for pennies, as long as the data is not sensitive.

How I use it

Grok

The one with live access to what people are saying right now.
