How I use Grok.

The one with live access to what people are saying right now.

Where I reach for it first

Questions about the last few days. Outside that it is a general model with an unpredictable streak.

Made by xAI

None of this is a boundary. Every model here has written code, drafted copy, answered questions and been asked for an image. What follows is where each one has an edge, not what it is allowed to do.

Grok

The one with live access to what people are saying right now.

Where it has an edge

  • Questions about very recent events
  • Reading the room on a launch or a trend
  • Image generation with a looser hand
  • A second opinion when the other models agree too easily

How I prompt it

I ask it to show the posts it drew on, because a summary of social traffic without sources is just a mood. For images I keep prompts short and descriptive. It responds well to being told to disagree with me, which is not true of every model.

Images

Yes, and with fewer restrictions than the others. That cuts both ways, so nothing made there goes out without a look.

Where it slips

It is the least predictable of the set. The tone drifts, claims arrive without support, and being current is not the same as being right.

The rest of the set

What I use alongside it

Not instead of it. Most projects end up using two or three of these together, because each one covers a different weak spot in the others.

Claude

I lean on it for long documents and code that has to hold together.

How I use it

Gemini

Long context, the Google stack, and a quick image when I need one.

How I use it

ChatGPT

The generalist I reach for first, and the easiest one to edit an image with.

How I use it

DeepSeek

Serious reasoning and code for pennies, as long as the data is not sensitive.

How I use it

Ollama

Models running on your own machine, with nothing leaving the room.
